A Summer Weekend in Steamboat

Have you ever been to Steamboat Springs? We're lucky enough to live here in the summers and I've grown to love it. There's a really relaxed, laid back vibe here (perfect for summer) and there is so much to do, for everyone. Here's what we'd recommend for a weekend in Steamboat:

Friday Afternoon
Start your weekend right with happy hour! Steamboat is famous for having great happy hours; a few of our favorites spots are right on the river and you can sit outside and watch the kayakers go by. Try E3, Sweet Pea or Sake2U.

Friday Night
In the summer, Steamboat puts on a rodeo on Friday and Saturday night, starting at 7:30 pm. There's a country band, fantastic BBQ, and lots of bulls and cowboys. Steamboat was originally a ranching community and the rodeo really ties the modernized town back to its roots.

Saturday Morning
Every Saturday morning there's a great farmer's market downtown on 7th Street. There are fresh fruits and veggies as well as things like pottery, handmade jewelry, wood carvings and our personal favorite: homemade jam in fun flavors like strawberry rhubarb and jalapeno peach. There are also lots of places to grab a snack or lunch (there's a smoked trout stand that's always delicious, and sometimes a taco stand) and there is usually live music as well.

Saturday Afternoon
The Yampa River runs through Steamboat and provides endless entertainment for everyone. You can fish, kayak and splash around, but one of the most popular activities in the summer is to float down the river in a tube. Depending on how far up you start and how fast the river is flowing, it should take about 2 hours - then you can hop out when you hit downtown and grab a drink.

Sunday Morning
Steamboat is known for great breakfasts, and our favorite spot is Creekside. You can sit outside under a big umbrella and listened to the creek -  and the food is spectacular. Our favorites: huevos rancheros, the breakfast burrito or one of the many choices for eggs Benedict - and a spicy Bloody Mary (award winning!) to go with it. Get there early or be prepared to wait! There's always a line on the weekend.

Sunday Afternoon
Relax after a fun-filled weekend with a trip to the Strawberry Park Hot Springs. The natural mineral springs have both hot and cold pools and are the ideal spot to relax (open both day and night).
